Our team of headstrong heroes are making a difference to those in need of medical care living in Los Angeles and developing countries. You can save a life and have a lot of fun walking or running for a cause you believe in.
This family-friendly 5K is an official event of the LA Marathon, and open to participants of all ages and abilities, including runners, walkers and strollers. Experience this iconic event through Los Angeles as you run through beautiful Elysian Park before a rewarding finish set against the backdrop of world famous Dodger Stadium.
All participants will receive a run shirt, finishers medal, their official run time, post-run refreshments and a truly unforgettable experience, as well as the satisfaction that they supported families in need of medical care.
What are we running for?
We are running to build healthier families and communities through access to safe and compassionate Ear Nose & Throat medical specialists, wherever a patient may be. By joining the team you are saving lives and giving peace of mind for families who have nowhere else to turn.
What programs and services does my run support?
Your run provides pro-bono surgical care for low income families without the resources to receive the medical treatment they need. Along with donated surgical care, our travel and housing grants programs ensure patients who need to see medical specialists outside of their city or state can afford to do so. Hotel and travel expenses are covered through these programs.
The Foundation also works with communities outside the US in developing countries by organizing annual Medical Mission Trips. In 2020 the Foundation will be working with those in need of medical care in Guatemala, a country with few medical professionals. Past trips have included Peru, India and Ethiopia.
What types of medical needs will my run support?
The Foundation helps patients with a wide range of ENT medical needs including head and neck cancers, hearing restoration, reconstructive surgery for abused women and burn victims, and nasal cavity repair for recovering substance abusers.
Do the surgeons and support staff get paid by the Foundation?
No. All of our surgeons and support staff volunteer their time and talents for patients we provide care to.
What does money raised go toward?
Pro-bono surgical care costs include anesthesia, instrumentation, specialty equipment, surgical supplies, as well as operating room expenses. Additionally, your run supports travel and housing grants for those who can’t afford to travel to see a specialist.
Are donations tax deductible?
The Osborne Head & Neck Foundation is a 501c(3) nonprofit. Your donations are fully tax deductible up to the extent of the law.
100% of proceeds from these events benefit the Osborne Head & Neck Foundation (OHNF), a medical non-profit that delivers free life-saving head and neck surgical care to communities in need around Los Angeles and the globe.
Each year the Foundation relies on events like the BIG 5K and the Los Angeles Marathon to purchase medical supplies for our annual Medical Mission abroad, provide travel grants for those who can’t afford to travel for surgical care, and educational programs for high school students interested in becoming the Foundation's future caring surgeons.
We ask each team member to commit to a minimum of $500 fundraising to participate in the BIG 5K and $1,000 for those running in the Los Angeles Marathon to help do this critical work.
Thank you for your participation and support. You are truly saving and changing lives.
